  • 1990: Innovation Sparked by a Real Need

    A conversation with a neighbor, a locomotive driver, highlighted the heat issues in diesel locomotives, which led Lumikko to develop cooling solutions for better working conditions.

  • 1992: Revolutionizing Locomotive Comfort

    Lumikko launched its first HVAC system for diesel locomotives, improving comfort for Finnish locomotive drivers. Over the years, we delivered over 900 retrofit solutions, setting a new standard in safety and comfort for aging fleets.

  • 2000: Restaurant Car refrigeration and HVAC

    Lumikko's first restaurant car HVAC and refrigeration project marked our entry into passenger cars. 

  • 2002: Unique HVAC system for Double Deck Sleeping Cars with Thermal-Managed Cabins

    Lumikko's breakthrough — designing energy-efficient HVAC systems for double deck sleeping cars with 19 thermal-managed cabins.

  • 2008: Retrofit HVAC Systems for Trams

    Lumikko entered the tram HVAC market by developing a unique roof-mounted HVAC system with ducting to  efficiently distribute heating and cooling across the tram car. These systems were installed in Helsinki’s older articulated trams.

  • 2012: EDO Double Deck Steering Car HVAC

    Lumikko designed and executed EDO Double Deck Streering Cars' HVAC Systems.

  • 2013: Nordic Innovation in Energy Efficiency

    Lumikko introduced a Brake Energy Recovery System integrated with HVAC, capturing brake energy to preserve heat and boost energy efficiency, specifically designed for Nordic conditions.

  • 2020: In Every Tram in Finland

    New tram fleets in Tampere and Helsinki now operate with Lumikko’s advanced HVAC systems. Today, every tram in Finland is equipped with our cutting-edge HVAC, setting the standard for comfort and reliability.

  • 2021: ERd Double Decker dining car HVAC and refrigeration Systems

    Lumikko designed and manufactured HVAC and refrigeration systems for the new ERd Double Decker dining cars.
