Helsinki’s tram connections will see significant improvements starting August 12, especially with the launch of the new transverse tram line between Kalasatama and Pasila. This line will be operated using familiar equipment from Helsinki city trams, all equipped with Lumikko HVAC systems.
Lumikko’s first rolling stock project involved renovating Helsinki’s old trams between 2009 and 2013. We designed, produced, and installed HVAC solutions tailored to these wagons, significantly enhancing travel comfort. Following this, Lumikko developed, manufactured, and installed driver’s cabins and passenger saloons’ HVAC systems for the new Artic wagons, along with a unique regenerative braking systems.
The City of Helsinki and HSL are committed to emission reduction goals, making energy savings in traffic increasingly important.
“Low-emission, renewable energy-powered tram transport supports these goals,” says Deputy Mayor Anni Sinnemäki.
Lumikko’s solutions align with the emission goals of our customers and stakeholders.
The new line will greatly improve connections to Pasila, and once the Kruunusillat connection is completed at the end of the 2020s, Pasila will have a direct, uninterrupted public transport link all the way to Kruunuvuorenranta in Laajasalo. Lumikko also provides HVAC systems, including a regenerative braking system, for the new Forcity Smart Artic X54 trams of the Kruunusillat project.
